Recreational Properties on the Rebound

recreational property

Recreational properties in the Greater Alberta area have been few and far between in the past couple years. One study suggested that only three waterfront recreational properties were available in the region in 2012. Since that time, the market has been slowly rebounding.

As more properties have become available, average prices for prime waterfront homes have actually decreased slightly. In 2012, properties located near a recreational lake or waterways were going for an average of more than a million dollars. Since that time, the average price of recreational properties in the community has actually dropped down closer to $750,000.

These prices are greatly impacted by fluctuations in oil prices. While the price of oil stays down, share prices will undoubtedly be down for many oil companies. As the oil industry strengthens, more people are expected to invest money back into recreational properties.

What does this mean for someone interested in buying a recreational property in the Alberta area? Essentially, it means that now is a great time to invest your money in some prime waterfront real estate. As oil prices increase, property values will also begin to rise in response.

Because prices are down, there’s really no better time to find an amazing recreational parcel that will stay in your family for years. This trend has been relatively consistent since the economic downturn of 2008. In the past, recreational properties have been much more resilient to fluctuations in their value. However, in response to the economic crisis of 2008, demand for prime waterfront real estate has taken a dramatic hit.

As people are more frugal with their dollar and have turned to maintaining savings rather than actively seeking investment opportunities, the recreational property market has seen a significant decrease in demand. Prices are still struggling to get back to their pre-2008 highs.

Despite the fact that recreational properties in Alberta are an incredibly limited commodity, prices are expected to creep back up very slowly. One of the major reasons for this continued trend is the increasing attractiveness of destinations to the south.

Many Canadians that possess the necessary means are turning to properties in more affordable markets. One such market exists in various cities in Arizona. While travel costs add an additional expense for Canadians interested in a Phoenix or Scottsdale recreational property, the cost of homes and property is so much lower that additional travel expenses aren’t deterring many Canadian residents that are looking for a warm summer retreat.

Currently, vacation homes in the Phoenix and Scottsdale areas are going for anywhere between 200 and 300 thousand dollars, less than half of the average price for an Alberta recreational property, despite the Canadian market being down.

Along with significantly cheaper prices, Phoenix and Scottsdale are appealing vacation destinations for Alberta residents because of the relative ease of travel. Direct flights to Phoenix are readily available from both Edmonton and Calgary, which significantly reduces the hassle of traveling to a summer destination.

That being said, there are still a great number of extremely attractive properties available on or near Gleniffer Lake. This destination is located centrally to both Edmonton and Calgary, making it an ideal location to get family together for a fun-filled, relaxing summer vacation. 5 Ways to Maximize Your Summer Vacation

summer vacation

School’s almost out. The weather’s warming up. Pools are opening and lakes are ready for boating. Summer is upon us and if you haven’t started planning your summer vacation yet, you better start today!

Summer vacation provides endless opportunities. Honestly, it can be a little tough to choose from the variety of amazing activities available at Gleniffer Lake in the summer months. You might be visiting for a relaxing couples weekend, a fun-filled vacation with your immediate family, or an action-packed family reunion.

At Gleniffer Lake, you’ll find a number of activities and amenities suitable to your groups’ specific needs. That being said, planning a summer vacation can be stressful and time consuming. In the end, a vacation that doesn’t go according to plan might not be enjoyable at all. In this case, your vacation really won’t feel like a true vacation.

Here are a few tips designed to help you get the most of your summer vacation here in Gleniffer Lake:

Read A Book!

While we pride ourselves on offering a myriad of activities during the summer, Gleniffer Lake is also an amazing location for a little rest and relaxation. While you’re hanging out on the beach at the edge of our magnificent lake, you might as well bring a good book and get lost in a good old-fashioned story.

Learn Something New!

Summer vacation is an excellent time to learn a new skill, try a new sport, or master a new language. We’re often conditioned to look at the summer as completely devoid of education value. In fact, increased levels of physical activity, combined with increased exposure to sun may actually make us ripe to learn new skills during the summer.

There’s really no better way to increase your level of happiness. Studies have shown that exercise releases endorphins, which contribute to feelings of happiness and accomplishment. At Gleniffer Lake, you can go for a casual run on the lake’s edge, take a kayak out for an afternoon paddle, run around on the tennis court, or go for a nice swim in our swimming area.

Summer’s a great time to leave those laptops at home and your phones in the car. It’s easy to become over reliant on technology during the winter months. The weather is often less than favorable and going outside requires excessive layering.

If you truly want to connect with your family this summer, try implementing a “no phones” policy for a few days during your vacation. Encourage your family members to unplug from virtual reality and plug into the reality that exists all around them!

Protect Your Skin!

This suggestion is easily overlooked, but it’s extremely important. Bad sunburn can leave you indisposed for days on end. You don’t want to be the one who can’t attend an awesome day of boating on the lake because you neglected to use sunscreen while you were lying on the beach the day before!

Gleniffer Lake/Paradise Realty | Upcoming Events: Multi-Cultural Festival

Gleniffer Lake

As the spring thaw continues at Gleniffer Lake, we are beginning to prepare ourselves for multiple summer events. Our gated community has many options for recreation and entertainment throughout the summer months.

Regular recreational opportunities include fishing, boating, barbecuing on the beach, and much, much more. Most renters and owners have access to kayaking equipment, as well as our exceptional fitness facilities.

As most of our owners have come to know, Gleniffer Lake is far from lacking when it comes to summer activities. We pride ourselves on having a myriad of activities available for all ages and fitness levels.

The Cultures of Canada

In addition to our regular recreational opportunities, we organize a number of festivals and community-wide events throughout the summer months. June hosts a couple of fun, festive events. The first, aptly titled the Multi-Cultural Festival, is scheduled for Saturday, June 7th from 11 am to 5 pm.

This year’s event will be held at the Danish Canadian Cultural Museum and Gardens, which is located less than thirty minutes from Gleniffer Lake. The event gives individuals and groups the opportunity to present different cultures and organizations that exist in the surrounding community.

Quite appropriately, this year’s event will place a spotlight on Danish food in order to promote the Danish culture that is also displayed at the Danish Canadian Cultural Museum.

The museum and surrounding gardens contain more than 5,000 artifacts representative of traditional Danish culture. Additionally, visitors can enjoy authentic Danish cuisine and read stories about Danish Canadian immigrants and their early adventures in North America.

Fun for the Whole Family

At Gleniffer Lake, we encourage many of our summer visitors to attend the Multi-Cultural Festival. It is amazingly representative of the various cultures in the greater Alberta area. It also allows our visitors to more accurately understand the immigration history of our particular area of Canada, as well as of the Canadian country as whole.

If you are planning on vacationing at Gleniffer Lake during the first few weeks of June, you shouldn’t miss the fun and educational events that take place at the Multi-Cultural Festival. In addition to a plethora of educational activities, the festival has plenty to keep the kids entertained as well.

From face painting to scavenger hunts, a visit to the Danish Canadian Cultural Museum and Gardens’ Multi-Cultural Festival is bound to be fun for the entire family!
